For the meeting, especially for Table Topics, the Word of the Day was "quotidian."  According to Dictionary.com, as an adjective, quotidian means "1. daily (e.g., a quotidian report; 2. usual or customary; everyday: (e.g., quotidian needs) 3.ordinary; commonplace (e.g., paintings of no more than quotidian artistry) or 4. (of a fever, ague, etc.) characterized by paroxysms that recur daily." As a noun, it means "1. something recurring daily or 2. a quotidian fever or ague." (Goodness! Another lesser-known word in the definition: An ague is "1. a malarial fever characterized by regularly returning paroxysms, marked by successive cold, hot, and sweating fits or 2. a fit of fever or shivering or shaking chills, accompanied by malaise, pains in the bones and joints, etc.; chill.")

The meeting's awards were:
Best Table Topic—John Lawson
Best Prepared Speech—Joseph Pezanowski
Best Speech Evaluation—John Sessions
Outstanding Toastmaster of the Meeting—Mike Weibel

Part of Toastmasters is learning something every week, not just in expanding our vocabulary but through giving, listening to, and evaluating speeches, participating in the various meeting roles, and eventually stepping out of our individual boxes.

Come and see for yourself what Toastmasters International Big "D" are about!
