Name: Bryan Daigle
First joined Toastmasters: First in 2003, but in Dallas April 2007
Why did you first look into joining Toastmasters?
To improve speech writing and to get more comfortable in front of audiences. I also wanted to improve my ability to speak extemporaneously.
What were your concerns or apprehensions about first visiting a club or joining as a member?
I was concerned that I wouldn’t know anyone and would feel like the "odd man out."
What was your actual experience compared to your apprehension?
Everyone was very good about introducing themselves and very quickly made me feel a welcome part of the group
What caused you to actually join?
I felt like I needed to do this to improve job skills.
Why did you join Big "D" Toastmasters?
For the sense of humor and fun. I don’t like doing things unless they’re fun.
What is different about Toastmasters compared to what you initially thought?
Didn’t expect Roberts Rules of Order to play such a serious part.
What is the most valuable thing you have received from Toastmasters?
Lack of butterflies when speaking, easier to write speeches.
If someone were considering joining Toastmasters and they asked you "Why Toastmasters?" What would you tell them?
Everyone can get something out of it, leadership skills, improvisation, speech writing, humor, etc.
If someone had decided to join Toastmasters and they asked you "Why Big "D" Toastmasters?" What would you tell them?
We have fun!
