Eric Dyson sent an email to the membership last week regarding a slight change in our meeting format. The one thing I have come to appreciate with our club is that it never stays static or dormant. Rather, it is the opposite ...
Dynamic!

Instead of paraphrasing Eric's email, I have printed it in its entirety. I think you will find this to be an extremely positive addition to our weekly meetings.

Fellow Toastmasters:

As part of the officer's meeting held last weekend, we made a decision to eliminate the "Motivator," role from our meeting.  The rationale was as follows:

1)  It is very similar to the "Inspiration & Pledge."
2)  It will save some meeting time, and
3)  We immediately found something to replace the role to occupy the time we just saved.

The replacement will be "Member Spotlight." Here is the intent and how it will work.

How many of you were around when John Sessions gave his "Ice Breaker?"  Yes Plato and Socrates attended but they aren't members of Big "D" anymore.  We all know that John Sessions is the bedrock of our club.  But how many of you  know his Toastmaster's Education level?  How many of you know what he does for work, where he grew up, where he lives, etc, etc?

Wouldn't it be nice if John Sessions gave a 2 minute introduction to "New Members," at a meeting someday soon?  How many members have joined since you gave your Ice Breaker?

Here's how the "Member Spotlight," will work.  The Toastmaster for the evening will ideally ask a member at the beginning of the meeting to participate in the Member Spotlight.  This will give that member a little more notice than "Table Topics," to prepare something to say.

The "Member Spotlight," should be placed on the agenda where the Motivator spot use to be; just after the introduction of the Toastmaster.  The Toastmaster will introduce the theme for the meeting and then call on a someone to give a 2 minute "mini icebreaker."

I'm sure that we will work out the details as we give it a try.  John Sessions is the Toastmaster this week and he is going to test drive this new format tomorrow.

Let me know if you have questions regarding this new meeting agenda item.

Thanks!

Eric
