Our Sergeant-at-Arms, Neetu Agarwal, called us to order and Mac Smith led us in the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. Since our President is still in India, Adam Brewster conducted the business session. Paul Carter was introduced as the Toastmaster for the evening and the theme was "Remembering Columbia" (Link Here) ... the space shuttle that four years ago on this date (Feb. 1st, 2003) broke up over Texas. Benjamin Vincent motivated us and Jim Wolff stepped in and ably handled the Table Topics Master position.

There were three formal speeches;

   1) Adam Brewster spoke on "My Neighborhood" and reminisced about different folk who lived there. This was a manual speech (#6 — Vocal Variety).

   2) Dr. Tony Brucks spoke on "Obesity & Political Correctness" and challenged us regarding our weight. This was also a manual speech (#4 — How to Say It).

   3) And finally, Eric Dyson spoke to us about "How to Find a Quaffable Wine" and gave some good tips on selecting wine for your meal. This was a manual speech (#3 — Get to the Point).

Kathy Tolar evaluated Adam, Greg Jenkins evaluated Dr. Brucks, and Sherry Meyers evaluated Eric. Cliff Hutchinson was the General Evaluator. The Ah-counter was absent for the night so it was a relatively "quiet" evening, the Grammarian was Katherine Gean doing a commendable job, Neetu filled in as Parliamentarian and Elizabeth Cook was smokin' as Timer / Vote Counter.

I know that young Tony Brucks received the ribbon for best Table Topic speaker, and Senior Brucks received the Big D Toastmaster award. I believe that Eric won the Best Speaker ribbon but I did not write down the best evaluator. Someone drop me a comment here and I will update it.

We had a great time even though the weather was kind of shaky. A real good turnout and a lot of fun. We're going to do it again this coming week. Stay tuned.
